SAAACAM Fiesta Family Blues Festival 2019

The San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM) is partnering with the San Antonio Fiesta Commission to present the inaugural Fiesta Family Blues Festival on Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Wheatley Heights Sports Complex from 4-11 p.m.

Local favorite, Michael Ward (also known as “the Velvet Violinist”) will headline the performances, showcasing his mastery of the blues violin. Opening entertainment begins at 6:00 p.m. and includes, BillyRay Sheppard, Joe Jama, and The Davidson Brothers. A variety of family-friendly games and activities will be available beginning at 4:00 p.m. with an artisan market and food trucks on-site. Admission is $10.00 for adults and children 12 and under get in free.

Along with the music festival, SAAACAM will showcase the historical significance of the Blues with a traveling exhibition called “Down in Houston” at the Institute of Texan Cultures from April 6 to May 25, 2019.

“SAAACAM is working diligently not only to bring the San Antonio community together to reflect on African American history in this city, but also to build bridges to a brighter future,” said La Juana Chambers Lawson, Board President. “There is no better way to accomplish this than through creating new traditions that showcase and celebrate our unique cultural practices.”

The Wheatley Heights Sports Complex is located at 200 Noblewood Drive, San Antonio, TX 78220 and free parking for the event will be available. This is an outdoors event; bring your own lawn chairs or blankets. No ice chests or coolers allowed.
