Hear the powerful story of the heirs of the Wilcox Ranch, in Jake’s Colony, Seguin, Texas. The Wilcox Ranch is the last operating African American Ranch in that Freedmen’s Colony. Panelists include, Dr. Scott Baird, Professor Emeritus of Linguistics at Trinity University; Dr. David Carlson, Bexar County Clerk’s Spanish Archives; Everett Fly, SAAACAM co-founder, landscape architect, and architect; and Shawn Marceaux, city archaeologist, City of San Antonio. The panel moderator is Clinton McKenzie, project archaeologist, UTSA center for archaeological research.

Fighting for the Right to Vote: The Ballot and the Bully

This video explores the history of voter suppression for African Americans in Texas and San Antonio plus what is being done currently to encourage voting and challenge the suppression. This video is a remake of the virtual discussion presented by SAAACAM, September 26, 2020. The video features Dr. Katherine Kuehler-Walters with the Texas State Historical Association and Brandon Johnson, MOVE Texas. The moderator is Elder Cory Mobley, True Vision Church. The original discussion also featured Demonte Alexander from the Black Equity PAC. Due to technical difficulty, the event was re-recorded. Mr. Alexander was not available for the re-recording.
