Calling all community historians! Join us for this groundbreaking historic event. Your interest and/or expertise is crucial to the completion of the exhibitions for our new home in the Kress and Grant Department Stores. This is a four-month commitment for about four hours a week.  We look forward to working with you!

August Story Time in the Park “The Reflection In Me”

Join us every first Tuesday for story time at Hemisfair.  Each month young explorers learn and play around the theme of being different while being included.  A short story is shared followed by a hands-on learning activity. This month's book is "The Reflection In Me" by Marc Colagiovanni. The book is a story of self-love that teaches children that their physical layer is just that -- one layer -- and below it lies a rich tapestry of attributes that make them unique and wonderful! Black History Film Series August – My Nappy Roots: A Journey Through Black Hair-itage

The Little Carver 226 N. Hackberry, San Antonio

The doors to The Little Carver open at 5:30pm, and the film begins at 6pm.   "My Nappy Roots: A Journey Through Black Hair-itage" explores the politics, culture and history of African American hair. Is there such a thing as "Good and Bad" hair? The film uses the evolution of black hairstyles as a touchstone to address the broader struggle of African American people in their search for social control, identity and economic independence. Immediately following the film, join us for the lively panel discussion.   ADMISSION IS FREE, BUT REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!

The doors to The Little Carver open at 5:30pm, and the film begins at 6pm. A viral video shows a white policeman throwing a Black teenager from her school desk. One woman helps the girl, faces the officer, and dismantles the system. Immediately following the film, join us for the lively panel discussion.   ADMISSION IS FREE, BUT REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!

Black History River Tour, departs at 1:45pm

Join us for a tour on the beautiful San Antonio River for a 100 minute cruise exploring San Antonio 's Black History along the Riverwalk.  Our trip starts by meeting at 218 S. Presa in La Villita. Please arrive at 218 S.
