Black History Film Series 2.0 – The Tuskegee Airmen

The Tuskegee Airmen – A semi-fictionalized account of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first all-African-American Air Force squadron during World War II, the film centers on ambitious young pilot Hannibal Lee (Laurence Fishburne). Despite initial reticence by higher ranking white officers, Lee, along with Walter Peoples (Allen Payne), Leroy Cappy (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), and others, are deployed into combat. As the successful missions mount, the Tuskegee Airmen develop a reputation as an able, fearsome group of pilots.     Special Guests: The San Antonio Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen

Black History Film Series 2.0 – Miss Juneteenth

A former beauty queen and single mother prepares her rebellious teenage daughter for the Miss Juneteenth pageant. This movie explores the significance of Juneteenth in small-town Texas, mother-daughter relationships and the world of beauty pageants. Be sure to stay after the film to engage in lively discussion with our panelists: Dr. Keely Petty, Moderator; Rochelle Staten, Vice President of The San Antonio Queen of Soul pageant; Sharon Garrett Fuery, former Miss Black Texas; Linda Harrison Lewis, retired judge and San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame Inductee; and Elaine Tims, member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women.

A SEAT AT THE TABLE: A CULTURAL CONVERSATION TO FILL IN EMPTY SPACES Join SAAACAM as we present this series of writing workshops with the vivacious Andrea "Vocab" Sanderson!  The first two-day series will focus on food.  Think about your story. Think about how did you get here and the food you ate along the way.  Bring your imagination and your favorite writing utensil and we will provide the rest.  This is a free workshop with limited seating.  Registration is required.
