Get ready for a ‘Night of Soul’ in La Villita as we celebrate Black Music Month with the opening of the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum’s newest exhibit, “The Soul of San Antonio” on Monday June 10th at 218 S. Presa at 5pm!!

The new exhibit, which replaces the current exhibit on Eugene Coleman, Sr. will take you on a journey throughout the decades with the origins of San Antonio music, its legends and the places where music was historically celebrated in our community! The unveiling begins at 5pm at 218 S. Presa where Plaza Nacionál will come alive with exciting sounds of percussions, savory smells of food from the African diaspora, with games and arts and craft activities for the entire family! SAAACAM will continue its activation of the entire historic La Villita arts village that night with several DJ’s and a live music line up like no other!.

The Arneson River Theater line up includes singer and poet Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson (6:30pm), vocalist Janet Hurt (7:30pm), and headlining the night will be BillyRay Sheppard and the Main Event Band (8:30pm)! You will also be enchanted with music throughout the night by Island Blue Tones.

Plaza Juarez will feature DJ Kevin Jackson at 6pm, blues guitarist Eric Watler (7pm) and vocalist Icy Monroe (8pm). Come and purchase your next piece of art, jewelry, and crafts from our featured vendors throughout the Plaza.

Food trucks will be stationed all along Villita Street for your dining pleasure all evening long! And over on Maverick Plaza Chef Johnny Hernandez will be serving beverages to quench your thirst from 5pm-9pm!

Come out and join us for a festive and educational event that celebrates the opening of our new exhibit “The Soul of San Antonio” and celebrates Black Music Month!
