Supporting educators, parents, and community members

The Education Department at the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM) advances our mission to preserve and share African American history while supporting educators, parents, and community members through meaningful, accessible learning experiences.

Through community-centered educational programs, we serve students, educators, families, and lifelong learners by making African American history accessible, engaging, and relevant. Our offerings include workshops, public programs, and hands-on learning experiences that encourage historical inquiry, cultural pride, and community storytelling.

We also offer enriching TEKS-aligned curriculum materials and guided tours designed to inspire curiosity, deepen historical understanding, and connect visitors of all ages to the lived experiences and stories of the African American community.

A signature initiative of the department is the Aaronetta H. Pierce Future Preservationist Program, which introduces youth and young adults to archiving, historical preservation, and museum practices. This program empowers participants to become stewards of their own history and active contributors to preserving community heritage.

SAAACAM’s Education Department is committed to honoring the past, engaging the present, and preparing future generations to preserve and share our stories.
