With “BLACK SOLDIERS, WHITE LAWS: The Tragedy of the 24th Infantry in 1917 Houston” (Atlantic Monthly Press; Publication Date: July 15, 2025; 978-0-8021-6475-9), award-winning historian and US Army veteran John A. Haymond provides the first full and definitive narrative of what became known as The Houston Incident, the execution of nineteen Black soldiers in Texas, one of the most consequential events affecting America’s long legacy of racism and injustice.

The SAAACAM Black History Author’s Series is a quarterly event dedicated to showcasing authors whose works illuminate the stories, culture, and experiences of Black life in San Antonio and the surrounding areas.
