Description

Train Up A Child began as a single poem inspired by the tragic death of Tamir Rice. It evolved into a series of poems dealing with both the joy and heartache that come with growing up Black and male in the United States. The poems explore the topics of police shootings of young Black men, the school to prison pipeline and gentrification among other issues plaguing our community. However, the poems also celebrate Black love and the ancestors that made sacrifices in order to make a way for the rest of us.
