SUMMARY:Black History River Boat Tour - November 28\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour on the beautiful San Antonio River for a 100 minute cruise exploring San Antonio ‘s Black History along the Riverwalk. Our trip starts by meeting in the SAAACAM exhibit space at 218 S. Presa in La Villita. Please arrive at 218 S. Presa 30-45 minutes ahead of the boat departure time. We then travel through history on a northern route up to the Museum Reach in the Pearl District\, then back south downtown to the Alamo\, Convention Center area and back to La Villita. You will be surprised at the continued African American influence and contributions in San Antonio. \n  \nNo professional video or photography allowed on the boat tour without prior approval. The SAAACAM Black History Boat Tour is suitable for those able to remain seated for at least 2 continuous hours. Umbrellas are not allowed.

DESCRIPTION:By the mid twentieth century\, Mississippi’s African Americans had suffered from nearly 75 years of Jim Crow discrimination. In order to break open the closed society and improve their lives\, they needed to be able to vote. In the summer of 1964\, hundreds of young white volunteers converged in Mississippi for a 10-week voter registration campaign. The results of their efforts still reverberate. \nDirector: Ed Ellington\, 2018\, NR\, 57 mins. \nImmediately following the film\, join us for the lively panel discussion with our panelists who will provide insight as well as resources available to the San Antonio community. \n  \nADMISSION IS FREE\, BUT PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!\nThe doors to The Little Carver open at 5:30pm\, and the film begins at 6pm.

DESCRIPTION:Did you know that San Antonio had over 80 Negro Motorist Green Book sites? \nEmbark on a 2.5-hour journey through San Antonio’s historic East Side neighborhoods with us as we uncover the stories of African American entrepreneurship\, resilience\, community\, and travel. Our trip will begin at the Brackenridge Parking Garage at 3501 Avenue B. There is no cost for parking. Please arrive at 3501 Avenue B\, 30-45 minutes prior to the bus’s departure. We will travel through history-making stops to the downtown theater district\, Dignowity Hills neighborhood\, Denver Heights neighborhood\, St. Paul Square\, and SAAACAM’s exhibit space. We invite you to be inspired by the legacies of Black brilliance in San Antonio. Without prior approval\, no professional video or photography is allowed on the bus tour. The SAAACAM Negro Motorist Green Book Civil Rights Tour is suitable for those able to remain seated for more than 2 hours. \nRegistration is required.
